For barbecuing you need meat, charcoal, smoke and several long hours to end up with meat that has a black crust on the outside and is tender pink inside. We’re living in the golden age of Texas barbecue, so it’s little wonder that you can find an increasing number of high-quality barbecue restaurants in Budapest, too. What matters is for fat to trickle, gravy to splatter, and hands to be sticky!

BUDAPEST BARBECUE COMPANY / Szent István Boulevard 13., district V

Located near Jászai Mari Square, BBC evokes a truly authentic Texan atmosphere without clichés. The two siblings behind the restaurant gained experience going through America’s best BBQ restaurants, and they also got a huge American oven, which is being put to good use here, much to the delight of everyone. 

FAT MAMA EATERY / Kazinczy Street 24., district VII

Bertha, where Fat Mama got its name from, is a British charcoal-fired oven, which is used not only for barbecue, but many other meals, too. For lovers of barbecue, tasting Fat Mama’s smoker dish with four kinds of meat is almost mandatory, but you can also taste a unique dish like the barbecue Bolognese with tagliatelle pasta.

BUFFALO STEAK HOUSE / Török Flóris Street 217., district XX

A real Western atmosphere awaits meat lovers who visit Buffalo, which makes the culinary scene in Pesterzsébet more colourful. Besides barbecue dishes, guests can also try steaks made from 100% Angus beef, Florida crocodile or even Australian kangaroo. 

Bp BARbq / Akácfa Street 24., district VII

Guests at Bp BARbq can enjoy the unique fusion of BBQ and street food in the middle of the party district. The meat here is made with a Hungarian-made smoker, and they might end up in sandwiches, burgers, or even wraps, too. It’s particularly pleasing that the wine list is easily on par with that of any of the major bars in Budapest.

SMOKEY MONKIES BBQ / Szentendrei Road 95., district III and Haller Street 22., district IX

The Smokey Monkies team barbecue their meat with an indoor, self-developed smoker, which is in full view and weighs nearly a ton. They now await barbecue fanatics with two restaurants, unrivalled BBQ sandwiches, fantastic coleslaw salad and a unique Jack Daniels sauce.
