On the first Saturday of every month, the Budafok Winery Tour – aka Pincejárat in Hungarian – is taking you to a unique, hop-on-hop-off journey visiting several wine cellars and getting familiar with the local cultural heritage. Budafok – as often called “Budapest’s wine district”- can be easily accessed with a direct bus service running from downtown dedicated to this event. You can taste the amazing Törley champagne and several fine wine sortiments in the open cellars and enjoy cultural programs. On the 1st December, the journey continues, join the Advent edition of the Budafok Winery Tour and let the winter vibes make your visit unforgettable! Why is Budafok a must visit place? The twenty-second district of Budapest is famous for its 100km long (!) underground labyrinth (!) with several 5 meter high passages formed 250-300 years ago as parts of a quarry. Wine-growers and wine-makers use approximately 30-40km of the underground passages for storing wine as the constant temperature of 11-12 C forecasts a reliable climate all the year round. You can find wines here from all the 22 wine-regions of Hungary! On the 1st of December the main theme will be Advent, but summer has a slight touch as well, you can hear the best talents of July’s edition the Eszter Hász duo in the Seybold-Garab cellar, the Péter Kolta duo at Magdolna Borklub, and Viki Nikolics in the Lics Cellar bringing back a little sunshine while you are sipping your wine. In the Katona Winery you can take part in the theatrical performance of the “Hírös” gastro theater entitled Bitter Aszú with an exclusive wine tasting. One of the peculiarities of the Winery Tour in December is dedicated for those who are still looking for their better half: in Lics Cellar, an interactive presentation helps not to be alone in the holiday season either. So if you are still single, love actually can happen as they say! At the Záborszky Cellar, an advent gastro show will give you some inspiration if you do not know what to get on the festive table. (Of course, you can taste the finest morsels.) As throughout the year, in December, there will be cellar quiz, tasty wines and of course a festive atmosphere. The gastronomy offer of the winery bus service was extended with three new restaurants beside Borköltők Restaurant: Vasmacska Restaurant, Promontor Restaurant and Istvántanya Inn provide visitors holding a daily ticket for the winery bus service or a valid district address card with a 10% discount.
