Jewish Art Days Festival

Only 3 more days left from the multicultural Jewish Art Days Festival, which was held between May 25 and June 2 in Budapest with exceptional programs such as theatre play – The Meaning of Life played by Pál Mácsai and Miklós Lukács at MOMkult Cupola. The aim of the festival is to promote the best of Jewish – Hungarian culture through its tradition, sophisticated performances, music and gastronomy.

Another gala concert worth a visit is the “Musical Festival-Pop, Swing, Klezmer” at MOMkult Theatre Hall, where Mariann Falusi, Gabi Szűcs, Eszter Váczi and their guest Ferenc Fegya Jávori, singer and founder of the Budapest Klezmer Band, will play together for the first time. The three divas and the singer will offer a spectacular journey through the different styles of melodies in the world of Klezmer to the audience.

If you would like to try the traditional Jewish – Hungarian cuisine Spinoza café restaurant, close to the Great Synagogue, offers a great variety of such dishes. Besides food every Friday a Klezmer concert show (Jewish folk music) is the protagonist of the night. The venue also has a small theatre and an art gallery to entertain the guests.

Those who want to have an alternative open air program can visit Mazel Tov  another exciting place with live music and concerts located in Akácfa Street at the downtown. This Israeli restaurant is an open hearted cultural space that offers a vibrant atmosphere and new wave Jewish cuisine. Here you can fall in love with the shakshuka, hummus, grilled meat and the Israeli fusion kitchen. This restaurant-bar is an urban site of the city, which during the nights becomes a garden party location.

If you are interested in learning more about the Hungarian – Jewish culture you should visit the VII District, where you can find three synagogues, one of them is the majestic Moorish style Dohány Street Synagogue. It is the largest synagogue in Europe and the second largest in the world. In the same building you can find the Hungarian Jewish Museum that features Jewish traditions, costumes and includes information about the Jewish history.
