Night of Museums

Visit over 100 museums and galleries with one ticket at the Night of Museums Event in Budapest

This Saturday we celebrate the 17th edition of the Nights of Museums in Hungary when museums will open from 4 pm until 2:30 am. The unique cultural event will be held across the country and thousands of museums will open its doors to the visitor. Only in Budapest, more than 106 museums will be open during this night with plenty of activities such as guided tours, concerts and gastronomy festivals for the visitors.

Every year thousands of people attend this cultural festivity, where visitors can travel through history and art. The aim of the event is to promote culture and museums across the country.

To access the programs, permanent and temporary exhibitions, you need to purchase a wristband, which costs 1.900 Forints for adults and 800 Forints for the children. After purchasing the entry, you can visit all venues during the night and you can use the museum buses for free. If you do not want to queue, you can purchase a VIP ticket, costs 10.000 Forints, which also supports one selected museum.

Here are some great Museums and Galleries, where you can see permanent and temporary exhibitions of all kinds.

The Hungarian National Gallery located in District I. in Buda Castle offers programs such as dance performances, workshops and guide tours for adults and children. You can enjoy the temporary exhibition Bauhaus100 and the contemporary pop up exposition Camera Lucida. During the evening (7pm) you can participate at the guided tour, Orient Express: Exotic Journeys through Nineteenth-Century Hungarian Art.

Another place you should visit is the Museum of Fine Arts Budapest, open from 4.30 to 1am. For the first time Michelangelo’s masterpieces will be on display, you can enjoy more than 80 pieces from the Renaissance master, from which 30 are nude studies. The temporary exhibition will take place in the ground floor of the building. In addition, you can see the permanent exposition of Hungarian Art 1600-1800 located on the third floor.

The House of Terror Museum is part of the cultural night too, you can visit it on Saturday from 6pm to 2am on Sunday. Besides their permanent exhibition, there will be unconventional history lessons such as the Anti-Communist Resistance in the 50’s and The Regime Change in Romania.

The Unicum House, located in the District IX. will offer a wide variety of programs, from concerts through wine tasting to guided tours. Their program will start at 5 pm with a guided tour on the history of Unicum and the Zwack Family, which will be followed by the concert of the renown Hungarian singer, Bea Palya at 6 pm. There will be wine-tasting offered by Homola Winery too, where you can taste exclusive wines from the Balaton wine region.

The Hospital in the Rock, Nuclear Bunker Museum opens its door during the Night of the Museums as well. You can visit the famous Atomic Bunker from 6 pm to midnight and learn about the WWII and the revolution in 1956 as well as the Cold War and their relation to the bunker.

Ludwig Museum will offer exclusive programs such as concerts, film screening, literature and other indoor and outdoor activities. The first 100 guests, who buys the ticket can get a special badge. The programs here will start at 4pm and will last until 1am. The museum has three main exhibitions such as The Story of (Post) Conceptual Art in Slovakia and Bauhaus100. Furthermore, you can try experimenting Virtual Reality (VR) and learn how artist create a new environment through an unexplored self-expression tool.  The exhibition will take place on the 3rd floor of the building.
