Only 2 more weeks and one of the largest festival of Europe the Sziget Festival will start! We collected some general information and useful tips for you. Sziget Festival is one of the largest music and cultural events in Europe offering concerts, art, exhibitions, workshops and freedom to its visitors. The festival takes place at the Óbudai–sziget (Old Buda Island), a 108 hectares green island on the Danube River. The first event was organised by students in 1993 and at beginning it was known as Diáksziget (Student Island) then in 2002 the organisers changed the name to what we know now – Sziget Festival. Also, from 2013 the festival is known as The Island of Freedom and it promotes equality and diversity with its slogan: “Love Revolution at Sziget”. Every year the festival brings the most talented bands and singers, which attracts visitors from all around the world. Last year more than 500 thousand people attended the festival and the organisers are expecting more people this year. The festival will be held between 7 and 13 August, during these days it becomes one of the biggest attraction of the city. This year’s line-up will blow your mind, well-known bands and singers such as Ed Sheeran, the Foo Fighters, Florence + The Machine, the 1975 and Post Malone among others will perform on stage.
