A gentleman’s guide to manliness

If you are a man for whom hair matters (or your beard), getting a suitable haircut in Budapest is not a difficult nor expensive operation. The amount of hairdressers and barber shops in the city are raising, no ladies are allowed, beer is served. These salons suit the style-conscious, but their vibe is friendly enough for anyone to walk in regardless of tastes.

The classic favourite is the Barber Shop Budapest chain of salons for men only. You are guaranteed friendly service in English, and the salons suit anyone trend-aware who is looking for a good quality-cost ratio.

The hairdressing dynasty of the Gellei family was started in Budapest in 1930, however the name was made famous in the 80’s by András Gellei, Golden Crown awarded hairdresser. The idea of a traditional barber shop was born in Melbourne where brothers András Jr and David Gellei lived and worked for ten years. Later their younger brother Aaron joined them, who was already considered a bit of barbering baddass himself. During his career Aaron has worked and gained experience in the field worldwide! After a while they all grew homesick, so decided together  to bring everything they had learned and lived about traditional barbering, back to Budapest in the summer of 2014. In the  barber shops, the Australian and Aboriginal culture can be recognised.
Throughout in almost all of the decorations such as  boomerangs, surf boards all brought here from Australia to strengthen our shop’s originality in Hungary. Their aim is to create a traditional barbering service for men only, where ladies cannot enter and interrupt as our gentleman enjoy a classical haircut and a straight razor shave.

Prices are mid-level and these delightful salons are found for example in district 5., 6., 7., but you can choose the one most convenient for you – all have the same concept and service. The HQ in district 5 has a Shop & Academy & Museum. Online bookings are warmly welcome, keep in mind some has a first come first serve policy and all has a no phone booking.

If you are after something more special, wilder or an entirely specific style – for example vintage-inspired – Hotsy Totsy is the place to go. Hotsy Totsy provides the smooth elegance both in the classic serving of drinks and barber service. Infused with the touch off Blues and Jazz classics in the background, they provide an atmosphere you can only get in the 20’s. Ladies and Gents both can get the feeling of a nice hideout below the smoky street level of the 7th district. Hear the twinkle sound of icecubes and buzz from the detailers. Hotsy Totsy engulfs the feeling of the prohibition era. Their neat and classy style can be found in our drinks and are represented in the barbershop as well. “We handle our guests with care.” In the early hours they serve exepcional coffee and soft drinks, and function as a barbershop, at night we change into a different world…

With the perfectly groomed hair and beard, tailored garments are a must!
