Let it snow! What to do in town when all turns white?

  1. You can rent a pair of ice skates and join the crowd at the City Park Ice Rink, which Europe’s largest ice skating rink. When the first chills arrive, the boating lake turns into one of the best venues for the ultimate winter mood. You can show your skills and tricks on your metal steels, or just sip a hot tea and watch others while you treat your eyes to such sights like the Disney fairy-tale like Vajdahunyad Castle.
  2. Heat up with some roasted chestnuts available at almost every corner of the bigger downtown streets and a mug of mulled wine you can find at most bistros and bars.
  3. You’ll definitely bump into Christmas Markets, which are the perfect spots for buying handmade gifts and also to take some X-mas backdrop selfies.
  4. You need to see the video mapping show displaying animations and cartoons projected on the Basilica starting from 5pm in every hour.
  5. Take the Christmas ride with the special edition tram 2 or 19 which have become a symbol of Budapest. Each decorated with 3500 metres of fairy lights, meaning a total of 39,200 white and blue LED lights are signalling the way of the vehicle. You can travel on the tram every day until January 6th (with the exception of December 24th and 31st) from 4 pm to 9:30 pm.
  6. Until the 23rd of December, Várkert Bazár is decorated in winter-style and will organise its annual Advent Celebration again, for the fourth time, with exciting and fascinating programmes for every generation. The location is worth a visit anyway, you can buy several Christmas products represented by the Museum of Applied Arts, also there will be a living Bethlehem every Sunday between 10am and 6pm.
  7. The ultimate winter wonderland is Normafa. Head up to the hills of Buda with a sledge to ride up and down the natural slides. The crisp fresh air, the amazing panoramic views and the atmosphere makes it the best outdoor activity you can wish for, though you need to dress up warm!
