The carnival season is over and spring is in the corner. It is time to chase away the winter blues and spend more time outside rolling in the city. Thankfully March is full of programs such as concerts, festivals, exhibitions and food events; you can attend with your friends, family and/or partner. Here are our recommendations to enjoy March the best way in the Hungarian capital. Gastronomy National Restaurant Week 2020 From 6th until 15th March more than 140 restaurants in Budapest and the countryside offer a special three course menu at a value price during the National Restaurant Week. The three or four course exclusive menu costs from 3.900 to 5.900 Forints depend on the restaurant. Although drinks are not included, it is still well worth the visit. Budapest Black Food Festival 2020 For the second time Budapest Black Food is held in the Hungarian capital. The festival will take place on 21st March at Berni utca in the District IV. Doors open to the public from 12pm and you try the different black meals until 9pm. This unique festival contains 50 exhibitors, where you can explore and taste black food such as black macaroons, black beers, black hamburgers, coffee and black garlic among other products. The event was successful in Berlin, Tel Aviv, Helsinki, New York, London, Nairobi, Kigali and Tallinn. Hurry up and buy your tickets if you don’t want to miss this interesting gastro event. For sure, the dress code is black (children under 12 years old don’t need a ticket). Bank Holiday 15th March is considered one of the most important national holidays in Hungary. It is the commemoration of the 1848/49 revolution against the Habsburg oppression. The main programs will be held in the garden of the Hungarian National Museum and Kossuth Square (Parliament). Most of the places such as restaurants, bars, shops, and markets will be closed and the transport will be restricted. Festivals, concerts and exhibitions The Budapest Photo Festival, taking place at various venues in the city, is open from February until the 20th April. The festival has two exhibitions, the opening international show and a Hungarian contemporary overview. The festival has a rich program, it offers lectures, museum events, workshops and portfolio reviews, while it aims to promote Budapest as one of the capitals of photography. The world famous Mexican and American guitarist, Carlos Santana will give a concert in Budapest on 19th March at Papp László Sport Arena. The tour will commemorate two major milestones of the guitarist’s career: the 20th anniversary of his groundbreaking album, Supernatural and the 50th anniversary of masterpiece, Abraxas. The 8th Friss Hús International Short Film Festival will be held between 23rd and 29th March at Toldi Cinema located at the District 5. Friss Hús aims to present the newest Hungarian and international short films and create a dialogue among filmmakers, critics and film lovers. The festival is becoming more and more popular with full house screenings every year and has caught the eye of the industry and media as well. The festival also screens the films of students, allowing an overview of the works made in Hungarian film schools and courses. Legendary jazz musician, winner of numerous Grammy Awards, Chick Corea comes to Budapest on 24th March and will give a 2 hour concert at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall. He is the fourth – most – Grammy – nominated artist with 65 nominations. His music is ranging from straight ahead to avant-garde, bebop to fusion, chamber to symphonic; he has touched a great variety of musical bases while maintaining a standard of excellence.
