Advent at the Zoo

Many people may think of the Zoo as a place to go when the weather is nice. However, the Budapest Zoo is open to the public every day of the year, including the Advent period. Of course, there are animals that stay in their heated enclosures during the colder months, but visitors can still admire these creatures in their habitats regardless.

There will be no shortage of sights, as out of all the domestic zoos, the one in Budapest includes the most species and recently, several animals have been born, so there are, for example baby elephants and leopard cubs, meaning you will be sure to see the young residents of our zoo starting out in life no matter when you visit.

From the First Sunday of Advent to Fourth Sunday, that is from November 28th to December 19th, visitors will be treated to a different special program for audiences, animal feeding shows, or some other demonstration: this will serve as the zoo’s Advent calendar. The programs are also recorded, which means they will be available for viewing on the Zoo’s online surfaces. On Advent Sundays, a spokesperson for the Zoo will go live on the institution’s Facebook page with some more interesting details.

On Sunday, December 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., kids can come see Santa at the zoo, who will have a little treat or present for them, and will be happy to hear the children recite a poem or sing to him. Of course, you will be able to take pictures of your children with the Zoo Santa. On the same day, arts and crafts activities will also be available to children, and the youngest of our visitors, from babies to preschoolers, can participate in the Christmas Elf’s musical program which includes nursery rhymes, colorful parachute balls, and lots of bubbles.
