description
The Gödöllő Royal Castle is the largest Baroque castle in Hungary, famous for its rich historical past and style-creating architectural values.
It was a worthy representative of the aristocratic lifestyle of the time, with its magnificent white and gold color hall, rooms decorated with frescoes, marble-clad bath and flower house, spacious stables, baroque theater, and huge park. Between 1867 and 1916, the building served as a favorite resting place for Franz Joseph I and Queen Elizabeth As a result of the renovation works, the central part of the castle was able to open its doors in 1996. As a permanent exhibition of the Gödöllő Royal Castle Museum, the hall and the reconstructed royal suites, the memorial exhibition of Queen Elizabeth, and the permanent exhibition – The Age of the Grassalkovichs – can be viewed here.
The rooms of the museum, which are currently open to visitors, present the everyday life of the royal family in Gödöllő, with a view of the Hungary of the monarchy.
