Football fever continues: the Puskás Ferenc Stadium visitor centre opens

The new stadium with a capacity of 67,000 people is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019, in addition to preserving the functions of a former stadium at the site, the new arena will also be an events and entertainment centre with 21st-century features. The stadium is scheduled to host four matches of the soccer Euro 2020 and will hopefully also be the venue of a Champions League or a Europa League final in 2021.

The investment project uses 100 percent Hungarian expertise from planning to construction and involves a total of 10,000 people, he said. It will become Hungary’s biggest public facility, hosting concerts for an audience of 60-80,000. The area will also feature a conference centre with a capacity of 2,000 people.

It presents the history of the former People’s Stadium (Népstadion) and uses 3D and virtual reality technology to demonstrate the new structure - expected to be 400 meters tall -  currently being built. The centre is located next to the Papp László Budapest Sports Arena, which is currently under refurbishment. Visitors are also offered a special 3D image that virtually crosses the old Népstadion into the new experience arena. If you want to look at the ongoing construction site, you can peek through a special optic behind the fences.
In the interactive experience center, the most important relics of Ferenc Puskás's career are presented in an unusual exhibition, and in the "Puskás Shrine" decorated in a huge football ball you can learn the story of the legendary Hungarian football legend.

Puskás is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time! A prolific forward, he scored 84 goals in 85 international matches for Hungary, and 514 goals in 529 matches in the Hungarian and Spanish leagues. He became Olympic champion in 1952 and led his nation to the final of the 1954 World Cup where he was named the tournament's best player. He won three European Cups (1959, 1960, 1966), 10 national championships (5 Hungarian & 5 Spanish Primera División) and 8 top individual scoring honors.
The Visitor Center at Papp László, next to Budapest Sportarena, is waiting for its visitors from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm on a 500 square meter floor area, at the upper level of the Hungarian Olympic and Sports Museum. The Sports Museum continues to operate on the first level.
