The weather is going to cool down soon, so you can kiss sipping ice-cold cocktails in the glaring sunshine goodbye for a while; moreover, music festivals and cold craft beers are best enjoyed during hot summer months, too. Although the temperature is dropping, the number of programs in Budapest isn’t falling in September. Our program guide for September is next. BUDAPEST WINE FESTIVAL / 6–9 SEPTEMBER, BUDA CASTLE Hungary is well known internationally for its frenetically delicious wines. If you’re a wine lover, head up to Buda Castle, a recurrent location in this month’s program guide, in early September. Upon entry, you’ll get a wine tasting glass as a present, and you can sample wine cellars, that travelled from every Hungarian wine region to the capital for the weekend, in a picturesque environment. The palette ranges from white wines through full-bodied red wines to sparkling wines. The program can be rounded off with a wonderful walk down from the castle in a cheerful, wine-induced state. TELECOM ELECTRONIC BEATS FESTIVAL / 14–15 SEPTEMBER, VÁRKERT BAZÁR Magyar Telekom once again organises the Electronic Beats Festival for fans of electronic music. This notable program series has found its home this year at Várkert Bazár during the first days of September. The featured acts are only revealed at the last moment each year, but so far they’ve never let us down. This year they’re preparing with such a large-scale program that, according to their social media site, they might change traffic on the Chain Bridge, too. It’s worth checking back with their website for details. 11th NATIONAL GALLOP / 14–16 SEPTEMBER, HEROES’ SQUARE Between 14–16 September, Heroes’ Square, one of the city’s most beautiful and famous locations, will once again be loud with cheers and beating hooves. The square and its surroundings will be transformed into an unusual racetrack for the 11th time. Hungarians honour centuries-old traditions at this race with a historic atmosphere, which is based on Hungarian traditions and revives the national equestrian heritage. And those who’d prefer a little calm in the hustle and bustle won’t be disappointed either, since Vajdahunyad Castle, the Budapest Zoo and the National Museum are only a few minutes’ walk from the event. 6th ÓBUDA WINE DAYS / 21–23 SEPTEMBER, FŐ SQUARE 3 days, 15 wine regions, and nearly 30 Hungarian wineries await wine lovers in Óbuda. It’s good news that alongside the returning big wineries, smaller ones are also participating in the event. Besides delicious Hungarian wines, you can taste Argentinian, French, Portuguese or even Chilean wines at the two international stands. Pop concerts, jazz and swing lend to the atmosphere, which you can further improve with snacks to accompany the wines. Photo: Pixabay.com
