The Budapest Festival and Tourism Centre’s (BFTK) network of Budapestinfo Point information offices will have a new office from September 2018. The BFTK, which operates 5 of its own offices in addition to 22 public tourist information points, will open the Bálna Budapestinfo Point, the capital’s new tourist office, to the public on 3 September. In the 63 sq m office on the ground floor of Bálna Budapest, the BFTK wishes to sell the classic bus, ship and walking city tours, as well as the “keys to the city”, Budapest Cards, in addition to providing official tourist information. Plans include for the office to incorporate nationwide programs in its portfolio in addition to events in Budapest. The objective of expanding the programs on offer is, on the one hand, to attract local residents to the Bálna building, and, on the other hand, to get foreign tourists interested in programs in the countryside, primarily around Budapest, of which several are offered by the Budapest Card, too. An increasing number of individual tourists and tourist groups visit the Bálna building, including many foreign students, who are guests of Bálna’s hospitality venues. Satisfying the tourist demand from these students and their family members, as well as groups arriving by ship, is also an objective, which the BFTK wishes to accomplish by cooperating with travel agencies and cruise lines involved in transporting tourists. One of the most important public service tasks of the Budapest Festival and Tourism Centre is providing trustworthy and official tourist information in Budapest. The expansion of the office network is indispensable in order to professionally serve the increasing number of visitors. In addition to its current services (event venue, retail and hospitality), the Bálna Budapest centre will also debut as Budapest’s water gateway with the help of the newly opened office.
