The history of Children’s Day goes back to the 19th century US, however it was first officially declared in 1931 by Turkish President, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Since then many countries adopted the idea to celebrate and promote the right and freedoms of childhood. In Hungary, we celebrate it on the last Sunday of May so this year it will be on May 26th. If you are a parent, grandparent, uncle or aunt you can spend the day with your little ones and participate in many unforgettable and extraordinary activities. Below we give you some tips on special events, where you enjoy the day. The International Children’s Safety Service (NGYSZ) and the local government organize their Children Day’s celebration at the City Park (Városliget) this year. They offer several free cultural and educational programs such as Children’s Day football cup, the Highway Code (KRESZ) quizzes, horse therapy demonstration and concerts. There will be programs awaiting families and children on both Saturday and Sunday. Here the families can have a great time and learn about the history of the old locomotives, steam and diesel wagons and enjoy the spectacular model railway permanent exhibition. There is a free entry for children under 14 years. The little ones, who are interested in science can have fun and spend cheerful hours with the family at Csopa Science Center located in Óbuda. They can enjoy several games and learn about science and physics while playing. This center is the first interactive scientific playing area in Hungary and it offers more than 250 games, tools demonstrations and exhibitions. Here the parents and kids can participate in many creative and meaningful activities such as children’s concerts, dance and fairy-tale theatre performances.
