description

The Open-Air Ethnographic Museum (better known as the Open-Air Museum in Szentendre) is the largest open-air museum in Hungary.

In the area of 63 hectares, the folk architecture, housing culture, farming and way of life of the Hungarian-speaking area come to life in front of the visitors. The museum’s permanent exhibition presents the rural heritage of the past, divided into regions, with the help of original and relocated and authenticated buildings – residential houses, outbuildings, mills, churches. The permanent outdoor exhibition covers the period from the mid-18th century to the mid-20th century. Residential houses and outbuildings each represent the historical type of residential house and characteristic outbuildings of each landscape.

The 9 regions originally planned: the village of Northern Hungary, the market town of the Highlands, the Upper Tisza region, the Central Tisza region, the Great Plain, the Southern Transdanubia, the Bakony-Balaton Uplands, the Western Transdanubia, the Kisalföld preserves the folk architectural tradition of the 16th century as a historical heritage.
